Billy has strong sense of community. His friends and neighbors are important to him, and he’s found a way to serve them – as a volunteer firefighter. So when Billy was diagnosed with cancer, the people in his community stood by him and were instrumental in granting his wish.
Billy told Make-A-Wish volunteers that his one true wish was to have his truck customized. But not to transform it into a luxury ride … no, Billy wanted his truck to be ready for firefighting duty whenever he needs to respond to his community’s call.
A local car dealership stepped up. Its team of experts took Billy’s truck into the shop. They devoted all their attention and skill to making it the perfect truck for a volunteer firefighter.
When it was ready, Billy arrived at the dealership to find his truck on display, front and center in the showroom. The centerpieces of the transformation were high-powered lights: an emergency vehicle lightbars that flashes red and blue, plus a spotlight to illuminate any dark scene during an emergency. The dealership staff also had a party laid out for him with pizza, decorations and dessert.
People in Billy’s community did more than transform his truck. They also transformed Billy’s life – first, by giving him something other than his illness to think about. And then by giving him a gift that allows him to help others, now and far into the future.
